What is Virgo Cluster Mapping Project?

The Virgo cluster mapping project with X-ray satellite ASCA had been carried out in three occasions : 1996 December and 1997 June with a combined exposure of 200 ks (northwest region of M87; Matsumoto et al. 2000), 1998 June for 280 ks (linking region between M87 and M49; Kikuchi et al. 2000), and 1999 June for 210 ks (region around M87; Shibata et al. 2001). There are 19 other pointings on known X-ray sources whose locations are within the Virgo system. Including these data, the total number of pointings is 60 and the covered sky area is about 19 deg².
